Goals

In this project, I hope to learn guitar theory and develop practical skills that will make me a better guitar player (or at least one that knows what he's talking about). More specifically, my goal is to be able to solo, and know what I'm doing and why I'm hitting the notes that I am (where they fit in the scale, key, etc.).

Here are some more specific monthly goals I have for my project.  After each month, I'll post my progress in regards to my monthly goals.

October:
I plan to memorize all the notes on every string. I also hope to receive some tips and songs from my mentor, and start putting them to use. In class, I will continue to watch tutorial/lesson videos from the website I've been using (see "Resources" page).

November:
By November, I plan to be able to play along to songs and know what frets on what strings I can hit when soloing in different keys, while also learning what notes are in each key. I will also continue to watch the videos in class, and hopefully one or two times actually play during class.

December:
In December, I will continue to watch videos in class and play if possible. At this point my mentor will be sending me more advanced tips, and giving me harder songs, and I will start learning some actual solos to songs.

January:
In the final month of this project, I will begin composing my own solos to songs that don't have them. I will still be watching videos in class.
